Project: CrabEx

More about this project:

CrabEx aims to enhance the circularity and business model of protein production from crabs. It also aims to enhance Danish marine ecosystems and biodiversity by turning problematic beach crabs into valuable resources and extracting their biologically interesting molecules.

October 2025 - June 2028

Grønt Udviklings- og Demonstrations Program (GUDP)

Aller Aqua will develop and test feed containing functional ingredients extracted from crabs, such as astaxanthin and chitin, and conduct feeding trials in rainbow trout to assess parameters like digestibility, growth, and coloration.

The exploration and improvement of sustainable raw materials, along with the development of high-value alternative ingredients for aquaculture, are essential for increasing farmed fish production. By focusing on these areas, we can ensure that aquaculture meets this rising demand while contributing to the creation of a more sustainable food system.
