The 2nd International Cold-Water fish Aquaculture Technology Seminar took place in Qingdao

Cold-water fish farming is an important part of China's aquaculture industry. To promote development of the cold-water aquaculture sector, the China Aquatic Products Processing and Marketing Alliance (CAPPMA), Heilongjiang River Fisheries Research Institute (HRFRI), and Aller Aqua recently hosted the conference in Qingdao, Shandong Province.

Participant numbers reached no less than 280, and comprised foreign experts and enterprises, Domestic fishery authorities, major cold-water fish enterprises (breeding/processing/circulation/feed), scientific research institutes, colleges and universities, as well as cooking, e-commerce, purchasing and media representatives focused on cold-water fish farming, fish nutrition, disease prevention, and industrialization. Concrete production challenges and potential solutions within farming systems, equipment and recirculated aquaculture systems (RAS) were exchanged and discussed. Also, the Chinese salmon and sturgeon industries reaction to the complex situation of international market competition and domestic market perception bias was discussed.

Dr. Robert Tillner, Product Manager at Aller Aqua Group, introduced the recently launched feed, PowerRAS, developed by Aller Aqua for high efficiency in recirculating aquaculture (RAS). He explained how the feed has evolved through years of research on traditional feed, combined with the water quality requirements and pollutant discharge characteristics of RAS. The PowerRAS feeds have high feed conversion ratio and excellent palatability, which can improve digestion and absorption levels, as well as health and growth of fish.

Jacek Juchniewicz, Ceo, Aller Aqua Polska Sp.zo.o. introduced Polish trout farming, based on his extensive experience in farm management, and RAS. Northern Poland has good water quality, low temperature and few hot periods. It is suitable for rainbow trout and consumer market is huge. However, many factors need to be considered.  These factors, as well as advantages and disadvantages of RAS for trout production were discussed.

The agenda further comprised topics such as applied research, intelligent feeding, processing and consumer trends, ecological culture, trout farming, sturgeon breeding, disease prevention and much more.

We look forward to hosting the event again in 2021.
