All feed formulas developed by Aller Aqua at the Aller Aqua Research Centre follow these requirements to ensure proper growth and health:
Protein Needs: Sole is a carnivorous fish with relatively high protein requirements, typically ranging from 40% to 50% crude protein in its diet, especially during early growth stages. Protein is essential for tissue growth, muscle development, and overall health.
Fat and Energy Needs: Fats provide a concentrated energy source and essential fatty acids, critical for metabolic processes and maintaining good health. Sole diets usually contain 8-15% lipids (fat) to meet energy demands. Fish oil or marine-based oils are often included to supply long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, vital for cell membrane integrity and immune function.
Essential Nutrients: Sole requires a balance of vitamins (A, D, E, C, and B-complex), minerals (calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iodine, zinc), and essential fatty acids (EPA and DHA) for optimum growth, reproduction, and disease resistance. Because sole is carnivorous, its diet typically incorporates high-quality fishmeal or alternative marine protein sources enriched with these micronutrients.
