Aller Aqua Research and partners conducted an international benchmark trial to investigate the performance of rainbow trout feeds and their respective environmental impact.
Rainbow trout of initially 180g were fed with ALLER GOLD, ALLER NORDIC PROOF and competitors’ feeds from Southern (Competitor A) and Western Europe (Competitor B). Fish were fed twice a day until apparent satiation at optimal temperature for more than nine weeks.
Final weighing demonstrated highest growth rate for ALLER GOLD, followed by ALLER NORDIC PROOF (without significant difference). ALLER NORDIC PROOF, conceptualized to increase slaughter and fillet yield of farmed rainbow trout, caused the highest final slaughter yield and best feed conversion.
Competitor A showed a significantly impaired FCR, lowest fish growth and final slaughter yield. Competitor B provided a fish performance comparable with ALLER GOLD but caused a heavy water pollution like Competitor B. Values for water turbidity, chemical oxygen and biological oxygen demand were significantly higher compared to ALLER GOLD and ALLER NORDIC PROOF.
Furthermore, the physical properties of faeces have been found to be weak for fish fed either Competitor A or B. Instable faeces particles lead to a reduced technical removability and thereby weaken the environmental quality of farmed fish.
Once again, ALLER AQUA trout feeds have been empirically proven to be the golden standard for rainbow trout farming.
